Speaking & press
A counsellor-led desk for midlife programmes, panels and press features.
Karen Serra speaks from her live Treelife caseload, her supervision work with emerging counsellors, and the same editorial tenet that shapes every long-form letter on Embertide.
Speaker bio
The clinical voice behind Embertide.
Reusable as-is for printed programme copy, press kits and podcast show notes — drop the credentials block below in the same handoff and the bio is complete.
Karen Serra is the SAC-registered counsellor behind every published line on Embertide. Her Advanced Diploma covers the adult, child and adolescents counselling stream; she holds the National UK Register Member designation MSFTR, Accredited Membership of the NCPS, Membership of the Association of Child and Adolescent Mental Health, and a FACCPH fellowship awarded for ongoing supervisory contribution to the emerging counsellor cohort in adult attachment work.
She has been practising as a counsellor since 2012. Her clinical work centres on perimenopause counselling through an adult-attachment lens, supporting adults navigating the identity shift that accompanies the hormonal one. The Treelife caseload, her ongoing midlife practice, is the substrate of every long-form letter on the desk, and the supervision that shapes her recommendations also shapes the writing that leaves it.
Every recommendation survives the same clinical review. If it would not stand up in a Treelife session room, it does not get a brand name attached to it.
Verified credentials
SAC Adv Dip MSFTR FACCPH — earned, not bought.
The credential stack at the heart of this page is the same credential stack that shapes the Embertide editorial voice. Each designation below is held by Karen Serra and is verifiable on the issuing register.
Registration bodies issue the designations; the Treelife caseload uses them. The distinction matters — a clinical credential does not authorise remote advice from a publisher, which is why Embertide stays deliberately publish-only.

Speaking topics
Four lanes the speaking brief sits inside.
These are the speaker-pitch topics Karen fields for panels, podcasts, keynotes and roundtables. They are not workshop scopes — bookmark the workshops page for the in-team training brief.
Perimenopause
The clinical frame for the hormonal and identity work midlife brings — not every symptom is a supplement problem, and not every supplement problem is hormonal when attachment context comes first.
Workplace wellbeing
What it looks like to bring midlife literacy into HR, People Ops and manager training without reducing it to a benefits bullet point.
Midlife identity
The narrative arc from career-built self toward the self that survives hormonal re-routing — and why the women walking it deserve more than a podcast mention.
Hormonal mood shifts
Reading mood, sleep and cognition through a hormonal lens without defaulting to pharmacology — adult attachment as the missing instrument.
"The hard part of menopause is not the hormones. It is that no one prepared you for the identity shift after."
Ideal audiences
Bookings where the clinician voice is the brief.
Karen reads every enquiry herself and replies with a scoped call when a booking earns one. The audiences below are the bookers the desk is set up to serve well — supervisory cohorts, training programmes, and editorial-led midlife features.
- HR and People Ops teams writing menopause into engagement, leave and performance policies
- Women's health platforms and midlife-wellness editorial — features, op-eds, expert panels
- Midlife, perimenopause and hormonal-health podcasts — long-form interview formats welcome
- Magazine features and long-form journalists covering the midlife market, hormone therapy, attachment or workplace adjustment
- Corporate L&D and learning & development teams building manager education around midlife
- Women's networks and employee resource groups seeking a clinician-not-creator voice for panels and roundtables
For HR and People Ops
A clinician voice, not a training click.
The half-day and full-day workshops sit on the /workshops page — symptom literacy, an adjustment-map template, and a manager-only Q&A archive. Karen supervises the referral loop and writes the quarterly anonymised report so HR sees what the policy is doing three months after the talk.
For press and editorial
Pre-publishing review stands between Karen and the quote.
Long-form features, podcast interviews and panel placements move through a written scope first — Karen reads the brief, replies with a publishable ledger of what is on and off the record, and signs the captured interview notes before any quote runs. Editorial tone stays with the publication's voice; clinical claims stay on the supervision record.
Press enquiry
Write to Karen with the brief, the deadline and the format.
The contact form is the front door for press and speaking enquiries — set the subject to Press enquiry so the brief lands with Karen before she opens it. Replies arrive from Karen personally within two working days.
Replies arrive from Karen personally within two working days — occasionally three if a supervision week is on.
What to include
- The brief — interview, panel, keynote, op-ed or feature.
- The deadline and the publication — Karen signs the scope before any quote runs.
- The expected output length — long-form interview, panel, or written commentary.
- A confirmation token if a third-party booker requests one.
A clinical disclosure for press and bookers.
Editorial on Embertide is educational; it is not a substitute for individual clinical consultation. Hormonal decisions belong with your GP or treating clinician. Karen's clinical supervision is the standard every published recommendation has to clear, but it does not transfer clinical authority to a newsletter or a panel placement.
